AVOCADO OIL: THE NEW WONDER OIL.

Until recently coconut oil has been the star among the oils. Avocado oil, however, has now taken its place and has proven to be even more versatile and beneficial for your health and beauty than coconut oil.  

 

Did you know that avocado is actually a fruit and not a veggie? It is a rather unusual fruit as unlike most fruits, it is rich in fats. Avocado oil is the natural oil pressed from the fleshy pulp surrounding the avocado pit. Almost 70% of avocado oil consists of heart-healthy oleic acid: a monounsaturated omega-9 fatty acid. Additionally, around 12% of avocado oil is saturated fat and about 13% is polyunsaturated fat. But don’t worry! Saturated fats do not harm the blood lipid profile like previously believed. In fact they raise the HDL (the ‘’good” cholesterol) and change LDL from small dense (bad) to Large LDL, which is mostly benign. While avocado oil has a high omega-6 to omega-3 ratio (13:1) this shouldn't be of concern as the total amount of omega-6 is relatively low.

 

Avocado oil has numerous benefits, largely related to its content of antioxidants and healthy fats. Here are some of the health benefits of avocado oil:

USE AVOCADO OIL IN YOUR DIET

Reaching for avocado oil instead of the usual butter, olive oil or other vegetable oil when cooking would be a wonderful change into your diet. It can lower blood pressure, decrease arthritis pain and potentially even aid digestion and help lose weight. Plus, it’s really delicious and will bring new flavours into your dishes.  

 

USE AVOCADO OIL IN YOUR BEAUTY ROUTINE

Avocado oil is a wonderful eye makeup remover, deep conditioner and wound healer. If you have a fresh cut, burn or scrape to heal, try to smooth some avocado oil on it in order to heal faster and prevent scarring. Masks with avocado oil can help reduce the appearance of sun damage. 

 

USE AVOCADO OIL IN YOUR CHILD’S ROUTINE

Avocado oil can be a natural alternative to diaper rash cream and can help soothe irritation quickly and gently. You can also treat any cuts, burns or scrapes with it.
